FAQ

Due to new USPS Shipping Fees all patterns are now sent FOLDED.
It is the most economical way we can get your patterns to you!

How do I know what size my PDF Pattern is?
You can see the document dimensions by opening the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader and mouse over the lower-left corner of the program window. The dimensions will appear there. When ordering, choose the print size closest to the dimensions of your file. You can also check how many pages your PDF pattern has (you'll need to know this for ordering). Price is PER PAGE ~ You must select how many pages your pattern file has.

What size is A0?
An A0 piece of paper measures 841 × 1189 mm or 33.1 × 46.8 inches. It is a standard "copy shop" size, but it is always best to double-check your pattern dimensions by opening the PDF file. Choose the 36"x48" size when ordering A0 files.

What file formats do you accept?
We accept PDF and ZIP files.  However, if your PDF Pattern is large, please zip the file for faster transmission. NOTE: If you are sending a ZIP file and it contains more than one size range, please specify the size range you want printed.

Note: We only print "copy shop" or A0-sized pages. If your PDF Pattern file only prints on 8.5" x11", we love PDFStitcher. A great resource to combine 8.5"x11" (or A4) pages into ONE copy shop file!

Can I send the whole PDF file?
Yes, but we'll print only the pattern piece files. Instructions, Covers, Pictures, etc., are up to you.

What if the PDF file has 30 pages, but I only need 1?
Just make a note in the Comments section at checkout of the pages (or pages) you want printed.

Can you print a specific size or layer of the pattern?
If your pattern has multiple sizes and/or LAYERS (sometimes called "nested or graded"). You can let us know which sizes you want to be printed by making a note in the Comments Box at checkout. “Print Sizes 12. 14. 16 Only” (or something like that).

NOTE: Do NOT select the sizes you want and try and save the file. What this does is TURN OFF the layer option for us, and the pattern will print with ALL sizes.

If you want selected sizes in SEPARATE prints (single size on each page), they need to be ordered individually.  “Print Sizes 12. 14. 16 Only as separate sheets” (or something like that), and choose 3 as your quantity.

Keep in mind, this only works if the pattern designer has set up the file with LAYERS.

NOTE: Patterns over 125" in length cannot have layers selected. Adobe limits the print length and we need to use different software to print longer patterns. Unfortunately, this software does not allow us to select layers. All sizes will be printed.

Otherwise, we print the file as-is. We will make no modifications or changes to your uploaded file. PDF sewing patterns are designed to be 100% or 1:1 ratio; otherwise, the sizing would be off.

My PDF pattern is wider than 36". What do I do?
Contact us, and we'll see if we can help convert your pattern to our standard 36" width!

Can you print in color?
Yes!  We print black and white or color depending on how your file comes. We do not modify a file, so if there are color lines, that's what you'll get. All for the same price!

Due to new USPS Fees all patterns are now shipped FOLDED. What size will I get?
At Check Out - You can specify the FINISHED size you want your folded pattern in the Comments section. We will do our best to get it as close to the size you want. Most common are: 5x8, 6x9, 8x10 (inches). If no dimensions are listed, we'll fold to approximately 9x12.

What is the turnaround time for printing?
Generally, we ship within 24-48 hours, depending on when the order comes in.  However, if you are in a rush, let us know!

What kind of paper is used?
We use a particular sewing pattern paper which is lighter than standard copy paper, but not as flimsy as tissue. It's translucent enough for easy tracing, easy to pin through and sturdy for extended life!

What if I accidentally send the wrong file?
As long as we haven't printed yet, we can accept a new file via email. If it's the same size as the one purchased, great. If it happens to be a different size, there may be a price adjustment.

I'm having trouble uploading my file; I keep getting an error message.
Make sure your file doesn't have any unusual characters (% is a big no-no), it's a PDF (or zipped PDF), but sometimes uploads can be temperamental. Contact us, and we will try to sort it out!

Why does my statement say "The Sewing Place"?
Your Credit Card or PayPal statement will read "The Sewing Place" as the merchant; our parent company.
They have excellent sewing stuff too!
